No. 4 SEU blanks No. 7 SCAD-Savannah to close record-setting regular season

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The SEU Women's Tennis program closed out its regular season in just about the best way possible, winning its first-ever Sun Conference Regular Season Title with a perfect conference slate. The No. 4-ranked Fire secured the crown wth a 4-0 shutout of No. 7 SCAD-Savannah.

The Fire (13-4, 7-0 Sun) began their strides to history with early success in the doubles. Leonie Schondelmaier and Aurora Compagnucci kicked things off with a 6-3 win against Jess Johnson and Clo Cobianchi on flight three. Isabella Bolivar Garces and Irene Parigi churned out a 6-4 victory as the decider, defeating Erin Passmore and Nora Louko on flight two.

Flight one went unfinished with the upset-minded Martina Picardi and Alessia Ciampi leading the No. 9 doubles team, 5-4.

With the doubles point secured, there was no looking back as the Fire hit on all cylinders en route to their first banner.

No. 63 Irene Parigi finished first for the first time in her young career, setting the tone with a upset of No. 39 Adeline Flanagan, 6-1, 6-0, win on court five.

No. 35 Leonie Schondelmaier was next on court four with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Asia Liverani.

Alessia Ciampi sealed the historic regular season with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory over Louko on court three.

Three matches went unfinished. Bolivar Garces was battling No. 28 Cherry Xiang on court one, leading 6-4, 3-5, No. 28 Picardi trailed No. 6 Alessia Piccoliori, but was leading in the second set on court two 4-6, 4-2, and court six came to a halt Compagnucci playing out match point, up 6-3, 5-2.

With the record-setting regular season under their belts, the Fire turn their eyes to the Sun Conference Tournament as the one-seed.
