King Named Sun Conference Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Year

SEU guard becomes fifth Fire to earn conference’s top freshman honor

LAKELAND, Fla. — Southeastern Men's Basketball guard LaDavian King has been named the Sun Conference Men's Basketball Freshman of the Year, as announced by the league office.

King becomes the fifth player in program history to receive the honor and the first since Joshua Blazquez earned the award following the 2020-21 season.

A 6-foot-2 point guard from Aurora, Colorado, King made an immediate impact during his first collegiate season, providing steady playmaking and perimeter scoring while developing into a key contributor in Southeastern's backcourt rotation throughout the 2025-26 campaign.

King appeared in 26 games for the Fire, totaling 209 points while averaging 8.0 points per game along with 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest. His ability to handle primary ball-handling responsibilities as a freshman helped stabilize the offense during conference play, while his defensive activity added additional value on both ends of the floor.

His top scoring performances came midway through Sun Conference action, including a season-high 19 points against Warner on Jan. 14 and another 19-point outing versus New College of Florida earlier in the month. In the win over Warner, King also recorded career highs with nine rebounds and 10 made free throws, showcasing his ability to impact multiple areas of the game.

King's playmaking was equally notable, highlighted by a season-best seven assists at Ave Maria on Jan. 21. He finished the season with 75 total assists, consistently facilitating offensive production while adjusting to the pace of collegiate competition.

King shoots 37.7 percent from the field and connected on 19 three-point field goals while adding 46 made free throws during his freshman campaign. He also contributed 86 total rebounds and recorded 14 steals on the year.

The recognition continues a strong tradition of young talent development within the Southeastern program, as King joins an exclusive group of Fire players honored as the conference's top freshman performer.

Southeastern continues play this week in semifinal action as the Fire pursue a conference title.
