SEU Continues Title Push This Week

Road games at New College and Warner offer chance to secure Sun Conference championship

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Southeastern Women's Basketball hits the road this week for a pair of Sun Conference matchups, beginning Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at New College of Florida in Sarasota and continuing Saturday at 2 p.m. at Warner in Lake Wales. Both contests are key conference games as the regular season enters its final stretch.

The stakes are clear for the Fire. SEU needs just one win to clinch the Sun Conference regular season title and secure hosting rights for the conference tournament. Entering the week on an eight-game winning streak, SEU has multiple opportunities to lock up the championship before returning home for the regular-season finale.

Fans can watch both games live on the Urban Edge Network, available on smart TVs and mobile devices via urbanedgenetwork.net. Live stats and updates will also be available through SEU Athletics' digital platforms.

Southeastern enters play at 22–3 overall and 12–1 in Sun Conference action, boasting a .880 winning percentage and a .923 mark in league play. The Fire are 14–1 at home, 6–1 on the road, and 2–1 at neutral sites while riding their longest win streak of the season.

Offensively, SEU ranks among the NAIA's most efficient teams, averaging 77.3 points per game while shooting 47.2% from the field, 37.9% from three, and 76.1% at the line. The Fire are one of only two teams nationally ranked inside the top 10 in all three shooting categories and one of four inside the top 25 across all three. Southeastern also averages 17.5 assists per game and nearly nine made threes per contest, reflecting strong ball movement and spacing.

Defensively, the Fire allow just 55.8 points per game and hold opponents to 38.6% shooting and 27.6% from beyond the arc. SEU forces over 21 turnovers per game and averages 11.7 steals, contributing to a +21.5 scoring margin and a +7.2 turnover margin on the year.

From a national perspective, Southeastern remains well positioned in the NAIA selection metrics. The Fire sit at No. 20 in the NAIA RPI and No. 30 in the Massey Ratings as the selection picture begins to take shape. The next NAIA Top 25 Poll is scheduled for release Wednesday, with the next NAIA ARC (rating committee) update coming February 17 — both key checkpoints as teams jockey for postseason positioning.

Individually, Mya Herman leads the charge at 17.5 points per game while shooting over 53% from the floor and 44% from three, ranking among the Sun Conference's most efficient scorers. Her ability to score at all three levels continues to pace the Fire offense.

Grace Field remains one of the league's top all-around performers, averaging 14.8 points and a conference-best 9.6 rebounds per game. She also contributes as a passer and defender, giving SEU a steady inside presence.

Point guard Mafalda Chambel directs the attack with 4.5 assists per game and over 110 total assists on the season, serving as the engine of Southeastern's offense.

On the perimeter, Alley Haas and Sarah Davis provide key shooting. Haas is over 41% from three, while Davis sits near 40%, giving the Fire consistent spacing and scoring depth.

New College enters at 7–14 overall and 0–12 in conference play. The Mighty Banyans average 56.0 points per game and shoot 36% from the field. Gwen Tsoukalas leads the team at 11.2 points per game, while CiCi Moore anchors the interior with 7.2 rebounds and over three blocks per game. New College rebounds well as a group but has struggled with turnovers and scoring consistency.

Southeastern is 4–0 all-time against New College since the first meeting in 2023, including a dominant 86–28 win earlier this season. SEU has won all four meetings by double digits and carries a four-game win streak in the series.

Warner comes in at 7–15 overall and 2–9 in conference play. The Royals average 56.1 points per game and 39.1 rebounds per contest. Bethany Howard (11.4 ppg) and Aleyna Sherman (10.9 ppg) lead the scoring, while Carissa Marthy pulls down 9.2 rebounds per game. Warner is strong on the glass but has battled turnovers throughout the season.

Southeastern leads the all-time series 30–21 and has gone 8–2 in the last 10 meetings. The Fire earned a 98–64 win in the earlier matchup this season and have controlled much of the recent history between the programs.

SEU will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 21 at 2 p.m. when the Fire host Ave Maria at The Furnace. The finale could carry major postseason implications as SEU looks to finalize conference positioning and build momentum entering the Sun Conference Tournament. The game will also serve as Senior Day and the final home appearance before postseason play begins.
