LAKELAND, Fla. -- SEU Women's Basketball continues its Sun Conference schedule this week with a road test followed by a return to The Furnace as the Fire look to extend their momentum during the opening stretch of league play. SEU will travel to West Palm Beach on Wednesday, January 7, for a 5:30 p.m. matchup at Keiser before returning home on Saturday, January 10, to host New College of Florida at 2 p.m. Both contests will be streamed live on the Urban Edge Network, available through the UEN app on smart TVs and mobile devices, as well as online.
The Fire enter the week playing some of their most complete basketball of the season. Southeastern owns a 14–2 overall record and remains perfect in Sun Conference play at 4–0, riding a six-game winning streak. SEU has been dominant inside The Furnace with a 9–1 home record and has also proven it can win away from Lakeland, posting a 3–0 mark in true road games. The Fire are averaging 80.4 points per game while allowing just 55.7, producing one of the strongest scoring margins in the NAIA and underscoring the balance between offensive efficiency and defensive discipline.
Nationally, Southeastern continues to rank among the most efficient offensive teams in the country. The Fire rank second in the NAIA in field-goal percentage at 49.7 percent and lead the nation in three-point shooting at 39.8 percent. Ball movement has been a defining strength, as SEU averages 18.4 assists per game, placing the Fire among the national leaders. That efficiency has translated directly into scoring, with Southeastern reaching at least 80 points in nine games this season and topping the century mark once in conference play.
Defensively, the Fire have been equally impressive, limiting opponents to 36.7 percent shooting from the floor and just 26.8 percent from three-point range. Southeastern forces more than 20 turnovers per game, and those defensive stops often fuel its transition attack—an area where the Fire lead the NAIA in offensive efficiency according to Synergy Sports. SEU also ranks among the nation's top five teams in points per possession allowed against press defenses, highlighting its composure and execution when opponents attempt to speed up the game.
Individually,
Mya Herman continues to set the tone offensively for Southeastern. The junior guard leads the Fire at 17.6 points per game, ranking second in the Sun Conference, while doing so with elite efficiency. Herman is shooting better than 55 percent from the floor and over 44 percent from three-point range, making her one of the most efficient high-volume scorers in the league. She also ranks among the conference leaders in steals, applying constant pressure on the defensive end.
Grace Field has been one of the most versatile players in the Sun Conference, impacting the game across the stat sheet. Field averages 15.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, placing her among the league's top scorers and rebounders, while also ranking near the top in assists, steals, and blocks. Her ability to score inside, facilitate offense, and defend multiple positions has made her a focal point on both ends of the floor.
From the perimeter,
Alley Haas has emerged as one of the most dangerous shooters in the conference. Haas leads the Sun Conference in three-point shooting at 49.4 percent, providing critical spacing for SEU's offense. Her shooting efficiency forces defenses to extend beyond the arc, opening driving lanes and interior opportunities for the Fire.
Running the offense,
Mafalda Chambel has been the primary catalyst behind Southeastern's pace and ball movement. The point guard leads the Sun Conference with 73 total assists, directing an offense that ranks among the national leaders in efficiency and transition scoring. Chambel's ability to control tempo and distribute under pressure has been instrumental against both man-to-man and pressing defenses.
Defensively,
Kristiana Kulackovska has provided a steady interior presence, ranking among the Sun Conference leaders in blocked shots. Her rim protection and physicality in the paint are key components of Southeastern's defensive identity, allowing the Fire to extend pressure on the perimeter with confidence.
Keiser enters Wednesday's matchup as one of the Sun Conference's most complete teams, bringing a 10–3 overall record and a 2–1 mark in league play. The Seahawks are especially tough at home, where they are 8–2, and are outscoring opponents by more than 19 points per game. Keiser averages 75.6 points while allowing just 56.3 and ranks among the league leaders in rebounding and assists, entering the week on a two-game winning streak following an 85–27 conference win over New College of Florida.
The series between Southeastern and Keiser has developed into one of the Sun Conference's most competitive rivalries since the first meeting in 2007. The Fire hold a 24–11 all-time advantage and have won eight of the last 10 meetings, including a 67–64 road victory in 2025, reinforcing the narrow margins and intensity that often define the matchup.
New College of Florida visits Lakeland on Saturday as it continues to build momentum during the early portion of Sun Conference play. The Mighty Banyans are 7–5 overall and rely on rebounding and defensive activity to stay competitive, averaging 40.1 rebounds per game. CiCi Moore anchors the interior with 13.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per contest, while Gwen Tsoukalas adds 11.8 points per game from the perimeter.
The Fire have established control in the young series with New College, holding a 3–0 all-time record since the first meeting in 2023. Each of the three meetings has been decided by double digits, including wins of 68–30 at home and 70–43 on the road during the 2025 season.
From a metrics standpoint, Southeastern continues to receive national recognition beyond traditional rankings, sitting 30th in the NAIA RPI and 28th in the Massey Ratings. In conference play, the Fire have elevated their performance further, averaging nearly 88 points per game while holding league opponents under 59.
