SEU Pulls Away Late in Win at Coastal Georgia

Chambel sparks the Fire from deep

BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Southeastern Women's Basketball continued its strong stretch of play on Wednesday evening, earning an 84–65 road victory over Coastal Georgia to improve to 19–3 overall and 9–1 in Sun Conference action. The win marked the Fire's fifth straight and their 11th victory in the last 12 games as SEU maintained its position atop the conference standings.

The Fire controlled the game from the opening tip, setting the tone early with an efficient offensive performance in the first quarter. Southeastern shot 66 percent from the field in the opening period, building a 24–18 lead while consistently finding quality looks both inside and on the perimeter. That momentum carried into the second quarter, as SEU tightened defensively and extended its advantage with a 22–12 run to take a 46–30 lead into halftime.

Shooting proved to be the difference throughout the night, particularly from beyond the arc. Mafalda Chambel delivered a breakout performance, knocking down six three-pointers on nine attempts. Entering the contest with just six made threes on the season, Chambel matched that total in a single game and finished with 18 points. Her shooting fueled multiple scoring runs and helped Southeastern maintain separation whenever Coastal Georgia threatened to close the gap.

Mya Herman matched Chambel with 18 points, turning in one of her most efficient outings of the season. Herman went 7-for-8 from the field and connected on four of her five attempts from three-point range, providing a steady scoring presence throughout all four quarters. Grace Field rounded out the Fire's top scorers with 14 points while also contributing 11 rebounds and six assists, recording her 10th double-double of the season.

Southeastern put the game firmly out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring the Mariners 26–20. The Fire shot better than 50 percent from the field in the period and continued to move the ball effectively, finding open shooters and attacking gaps in the defense. SEU finished the game with 20 assists on 30 made field goals, a reflection of the team's balance and unselfish play.

Defensively, the Fire forced 19 turnovers and turned those miscues into 25 points, limiting Coastal Georgia's ability to establish any sustained offensive rhythm. Southeastern also controlled the glass, particularly in key moments, preventing second-chance opportunities and closing possessions with rebounds.

SEU will return home for its next contest on Saturday, hosting Webber International at 5 p.m. inside The Furnace.
