SEU Continues Conference Play with Coastal Georgia, Webber

Fire look to strengthen league positioning with road and home matchups

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Southeastern Men's Basketball continues Sun Conference play this week with a pivotal two-game stretch, opening on the road Wednesday, with a 7:30 p.m. tip at Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, Ga., before returning home to The Furnace on Saturday, to host Webber International at 7 p.m. as the Fire look to strengthen their position in the conference race.

Both games will be available live on the Urban Edge Network App, accessible on smart TVs and mobile devices, as well as online.

Southeastern enters the week with an 18-3 overall record and a 7-2 mark in Sun Conference play. The Fire have been consistent in all environments, posting an 8-1 record at home, an 8-2 mark on the road, and a perfect 2-0 record at neutral sites. Despite coming off a loss, SEU remains firmly among the conference's top contenders as the season reaches its most critical stretch.

Offensively, the Fire rank among the most efficient teams in the NAIA, averaging 86.7 points per game while shooting 50.9 percent from the field. Southeastern also connects on 35.5 percent from three-point range and 72.7 percent at the free throw line, while averaging 38.8 rebounds and 15.1 assists per contest, reflecting a balanced attack capable of scoring in multiple ways.

On the defensive end, SEU has limited opponents to 75.9 points per game, holding teams to 44.9 percent shooting from the floor and 32.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Fire's +10.9 scoring margin ranks among the NAIA leaders and is supported by strong defensive rebounding, interior presence, and consistent pressure on opposing offenses.

From a postseason perspective, Southeastern remains well-positioned with an NAIA RPI of 41, a 1-1 record in Quad 1 games, and a 4-1 mark in Quad 2 contests. The Fire are also ranked 38th in the Massey Ratings, reinforcing their national profile as conference play continues.

Mylo Santos continues to lead the Fire offensively, averaging 17.9 points per game while serving as a primary creator in the backcourt. His ability to score at all three levels, combined with consistent defensive pressure, makes him a constant matchup challenge and a key driver of SEU's offensive tempo.

Daivion Traylor has been one of the most efficient interior scorers in the Sun Conference, averaging 15.5 points per game while shooting better than 74 percent from the field. His physical presence around the rim and rebounding production give Southeastern a reliable inside option on both ends of the floor.

Anthony Kangah provides perimeter balance for the Fire, averaging 11.8 points per game while connecting on more than 41 percent of his three-point attempts. His shooting stretches defenses and creates space for SEU's guards and post players to operate.

Nathan Mikkelson anchors the paint for Southeastern, leading the team with 8.3 rebounds per game while adding 11.7 points. He also supplies consistent rim protection, making him a central figure in SEU's interior defense.

Jayson Nixon rounds out the core contributors in the backcourt, averaging 11.0 points per game while leading the team in assists. His ability to control pace, facilitate offense, and knock down perimeter shots has been key to Southeastern's efficiency throughout the season.

Coastal Georgia enters Wednesday's matchup looking to gain momentum in Sun Conference play. The Mariners average 78.0 points per game and rely heavily on perimeter shooting, connecting on 35.7 percent from three-point range, while featuring a balanced scoring approach that places multiple players in double figures. Coastal Georgia has shown the ability to score in bunches but has faced challenges consistently slowing down high-powered offenses.

The series between Southeastern and Coastal Georgia dates back to 2014, with the Fire holding a strong advantage in recent seasons. Southeastern has won eight of the last ten meetings, including a 108-73 victory earlier this season in Lakeland, and has claimed several close contests during that stretch, including a double-overtime win in 2024.

Webber International comes to Lakeland riding a nine-game winning streak and carrying a 25-10 overall record. The Warriors average 71.8 points per game and are dangerous from beyond the arc, making 8.6 three-pointers per contest, with guard play driving much of their offensive production. Webber's recent surge has been fueled by improved shooting efficiency and success in close conference games.

Southeastern and Webber have faced each other regularly since first meeting in 2001, with the Fire controlling the series in recent years. Southeastern has won nine of the last ten matchups, including an 84-57 road win earlier this season, and has consistently limited Webber's offense during that stretch, particularly in conference play.

Looking ahead, Southeastern will remain in Sun Conference action next week with a road trip to St. Thomas University on Wednesday, February 4, for a 7:30 p.m. tip in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Fire will then return home on Saturday, February 7, hosting Keiser University at 7 p.m. inside The Furnace as conference play continues to intensify.
