SEU Hosts Warner in Midweek Sun Conference Matchup

Fire enter Wednesday’s contest 15–3 overall and 10–1 at home this season

LAKELAND, Fla. -- SEU Women's Basketball continues Sun Conference play this week with a return to The Furnace as the Fire prepare to host Warner on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Lakeland, marking another key home conference matchup as SEU looks to maintain its position near the top of the league standings. Fans can follow the action live on the Urban Edge Network through the UEN app on smart TVs and mobile devices, as well as online.

The Fire enter the midweek contest with a 15–3 overall record and a 5–1 mark in Sun Conference play, continuing to establish themselves as one of the most consistent teams in the NAIA. Southeastern has been particularly strong at home this season, posting a 10–1 record inside The Furnace, while also finding success away from Lakeland with a combined 5–2 mark in road and neutral-site games. SEU is averaging 78.4 points per game while holding opponents to just 54.6, resulting in one of the nation's top scoring margins and reflecting the Fire's balance on both ends of the floor.

Nationally, Southeastern continues to rank among the most efficient offensive teams in the country. The Fire rank fifth in the NAIA in field-goal percentage (48.2 percent) and lead the nation in three-point shooting at 39.1 percent, while also ranking among the top 25 in free-throw percentage. Ball movement remains a defining strength, with SEU averaging 18.1 assists per game. That efficiency has translated into production, as Southeastern has reached 80 points or more in 10 games this season, including a 100-point performance in conference play.

Defensively, the Fire have been just as effective, limiting opponents to 36.6 percent shooting from the floor and 26.6 percent from three-point range. Southeastern forces more than 21 turnovers per game and ranks among the NAIA's top teams in scoring defense, allowing just 54.6 points per contest. Those defensive stops frequently fuel SEU's transition attack, allowing the Fire to dictate tempo and control games for extended stretches.

Individually, Mya Herman continues to set the tone offensively for Southeastern and etched her name into the program record book over the weekend. The junior guard scored her 1,000th career point on Saturday, becoming just the eighth player in program history to reach the milestone. Herman ranks second in the Sun Conference at 17.7 points per game while shooting better than 54 percent from the floor and over 45 percent from three-point range, while also ranking among the league leaders in steals.

Grace Field has been one of the most complete players in the Sun Conference, providing production across multiple categories. Field averages 14.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, ranking among the league's top rebounders while anchoring SEU's interior presence on both ends of the floor.

From the perimeter, Alley Haas has emerged as one of the most dangerous shooters in the conference. Haas leads the Sun Conference in three-point shooting at 46.9 percent, giving the Fire a reliable spacing threat that stretches opposing defenses and opens driving lanes throughout SEU's offensive sets.

Running the offense, Mafalda Chambel continues to orchestrate Southeastern's attack, ranking second in the Sun Conference with 4.6 assists per game. Her ability to control tempo and facilitate ball movement has been instrumental for an offense that ranks among the NAIA's most efficient.

Warner enters the matchup at 5–11 overall and 0–5 in Sun Conference play, relying heavily on rebounding and interior play. Carissa Marthy leads the Royals and the conference with 10.2 rebounds per game, while Warner averages more than 40 rebounds per contest as a team, often using second-chance opportunities to stay competitive.

The meeting continues a long-standing series between the two programs that dates back to 2001. Southeastern holds a 29–21 advantage in the all-time series, including a 17–9 record at home, and has won eight of the last 10 meetings. Each team earned a win during the 2025 season, underscoring the familiarity and competitive nature of the matchup.

Looking ahead, SEU will remain in Sun Conference action next week with a road trip to Ave Maria on Wednesday, January 21, before returning home on Saturday, January 24, to host Florida Memorial inside The Furnace as the Fire continue a pivotal stretch of league play.
