LAKELAND, Fla. -- Following a dominant performance in the Sun Conference Game of the Week, SEU football claimed all three Sun Conference Player of the Week awards, as
Jocquet Jiles,
Jamil Jones, and
Joel McGrath were each recognized for their efforts in Saturday's 41-20 win over Reinhardt.
Running back
Jocquet Jiles was named Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week after running around, through, and all over the Reinhardt defense, finishing with 127 yards on just 12 carries. The explosive playmaker found the end zone twice and averaged an impressive 10.6 yards per carry, setting the tone for the Fire offense in the statement victory. This marks Jiles' first career Sun Conference weekly honor.
Defensive back
Jamil Jones earned Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his standout effort in the secondary. Jones picked off two passes and added three total tackles—two solo and one assisted—to help shut down Reinhardt's passing attack. His lockdown performance fueled a Fire defense that forced multiple turnovers in the win. Like Jiles, this is Jones' first career weekly award from the Sun Conference.
Kicker and punter
Joel McGrath was selected as the Sun Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his all-around contributions. McGrath went 5-for-6 on extra points, accounting for five points on the scoreboard, while also handling punting duties. He averaged 25 yards on three punts, twice pinning the Eagles inside their own 20-yard line to give the Fire defense favorable field position. This is McGrath's first weekly honor of the season and the second of his career, with his first coming on September 11, 2023.
The Fire's 41-20 victory over RV Reinhardt improved their record to 2-0 on the season. SEU will look to stay unbeaten when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama, to face Faulkner on Saturday, September 20. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. EST.
