TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. -- SEU Men's Soccer struck first but couldn't hold on as the Fire dropped a 2-1 decision to Florida College Thursday night at Qualls Field, extending SEU's winless streak to four straight matches.
SEU got off to a strong start when
Jman Dieng tallied his fourth goal of the season in the 15th minute to give the Fire a 1-0 advantage. The score capped an early stretch where Southeastern created several chances in the attacking third.
The Falcons answered back before halftime as Yorgen Torres converted in the 34th minute to send the match into the break level at 1-1.
Southeastern battled to regain control in the second half, generating seven shots after the intermission and forcing six saves from Florida College goalkeeper Filip Borka. However, it was the home side that broke through when Damauri Greer scored the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute.
The Fire pressed for an equalizer down the stretch.
Fabio De Paula had multiple looks on frame, while
Luca Baldestein nearly leveled the match with a strong strike in the 87th minute, but Borka stood tall in goal to preserve the result.
Goalkeeper
Emmanuel Uwazie kept SEU in contention throughout the night, recording a season-high 12 saves against 23 total shots from the Falcons. The Fire finished with 13 shots, nine of which were on target, led by
Guilherme Viserta and De Paula who each put multiple attempts on goal.
With the result, Southeastern falls to 2-3-1 on the season.
The Fire continue their road swing with a tough test on Saturday, September 13, traveling to Lawrenceville, Georgia, to face No. 22 Georgia Gwinnett College at 2 p.m.
