Volleyball Sweeps Reinhardt to Close SEU Invitational

Fire got 11 kills and seven aces from Laura Bonomi in the victory

LAKELAND, Fla. -- SEU Volleyball continued its success from Friday's season opener, dispatching Reinhardt in straight sets (25-15, 25-16, 25-13) on Saturday at The Furnace. The Fire improved to 2-0 with a clinical performance that showcased offensive efficiency, aggressive serving, and a disciplined defensive effort.

Laura Bonomi led the charge with 11 kills on a blistering .579 hitting percentage, adding seven service aces and 10 digs to her stat line. It was her second straight double-double to begin the season, while the seven aces are the most by a SEU player since Katie Trenski had eight against Florida Memorial during the 2014 season.

Yarelis Lopez matched Bonomi's kill total with 11 of her own, hitting .407 and contributing seven digs and an ace.

Southeastern hit .387 as a team, committing just 10 attack errors across three sets. Annelise de Jong added eight kills (.278), while Emily Maske chipped in seven (.333). Jewel Carling and Lucrezia Ceroni combined for nine kills and three blocks.

Setters Ava Connors and Haven Speer ran the offense with precision, combining for 36 assists. Connors also added two aces and five digs, while Speer contributed four digs.

Marysa Connors anchored the back row with a match-high 14 digs, helping hold Reinhardt to a .157 hitting percentage. Southeastern finished with 49 digs and five blocks.

The Fire seized control early in each set. Southeastern broke a 7-7 tie in the opening set with a 7-2 run, fueled by kills from de Jong and Lopez and a service ace from Bonomi. The second set featured a 10-2 burst, highlighted by three consecutive aces from Bonomi. In the third, the Fire opened with a 6-1 run and never looked back.

Reinhardt (1-3) struggled to find rhythm, committing nine service errors. Jenna Smith and Zoe Van Waaijen led the Eagles with seven kills apiece.

SEU will travel to the Palm Beach Juniors Round Robin hosted by Keiser in West Palm Beach next week. The Fire begin the event on Thursday with matches against Florida National at 11 a.m. and Columbia (S.C.) at 1 p.m.
