LAKELAND, Fla. - Following a sixth consecutive Sun Conference Regular Season Title, Southeastern University baseball was well-represented in the release of the league's all-conference and specialty awards.
A total of nine Fire student-athletes earned All-Sun Conference recognition, including five first-team selections and four second-team honorees.
Named First-Team All-Sun Conference were left-handed hitters
Connor Hicks and
Charlie Collins, as well as right-handers
Alfonso Villalobos and
Peter Tassler.
Aaron Robertson was named to the first-team pitching staff after posting a stellar 1.90 ERA throughout the regular season.
On the second-team, newcomers
James Strom,
Jon Paul Pennella, and
Cole Jones were recognized for their standout seasons.
Reece Wissinger also earned second-team honors — his second all-conference selection since transferring to SEU.
Southeastern also claimed two specialty awards.
JP Pennella was named Sun Conference Freshman of the Year. The Fire leadoff hitter posted a conference-best .443 batting average, a league-high 83 hits, and topped the charts with a .538 on-base percentage. Pennella ranked in the top ten in five other offensive categories, underscoring his all-around dominance at the plate.
In his first year with the Fire, Head Coach Gabe Grinder was named the 2025 Sun Conference Coach of the Year. A former Fire pitcher (Class of 2011), Grinder led Southeastern to a 39-11 overall record, the program's sixth straight regular season title, and the top seed in the conference tournament.
The Fire return to action tomorrow at 11 a.m., opening Sun Conference Tournament play against sixth-seeded Warner — their sixth meeting of the season.
