BRUNSWICK, Ga. – After nearly two weeks away from competition, the Southeastern University women's tennis team returned to the courts in dominant fashion, sweeping the College of Coastal Georgia, 4-0, on Friday afternoon. The victory marked SEU's 16th win of the season and third consecutive shutout.
The Fire (16-5) wasted no time asserting themselves, allowing just two total games across five completed match-ups. Irene Parigi earned wins in both doubles and singles, while Irene Lopez delivered a flawless singles performance to seal the match.
At third doubles, SEU gained an automatic win via forfeit due to Coastal Georgia's incomplete lineup. In the second doubles slot, Isabella Bolivar Garces and Parigi cruised to a 6-0 win over Felicia Elixmann and Azul Malatini. The top doubles match remained unfinished, with Lopez and Carlotta Nonnis Marzano tied 3-3 against Karlie Scott Kersey and Kourtny Kosto.
In singles play, the Fire continued to dominate. Forcella added a second win by default at No. 6 singles, while Parigi made quick work of Kosto at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 result.
Lopez closed out the match in style, shutting out Lyla Johnson 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 position.
Several matches went unfinished but showed strong SEU performances. At No. 1 singles, Marzano took the first set 6-2 and was tied 2-2 in the second against Kersey. Bolivar Garces edged out a 7-5 win in the opening set at No. 2 singles. Neleah Neiberline claimed a 6-1 first set at No. 3 singles, with Elixmann leading 2-1 in the second when play was halted.
The Fire have now won eight of their last nine matches and continue to build momentum heading into a marquee showdown.
Next up, Southeastern heads north for a Saturday afternoon matchup against No. 9-ranked SCAD-Savannah. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
