SAVANNAH, Ga. – It takes an extraordinary performance to top the Fire, and No. 9 SCAD-Savannah delivered one on Saturday. The Bees defended their home court with a 4-0 victory over No. 4 Southeastern University in a Top-10 women's tennis showdown.
SEU opened with a strong showing at the top doubles line, where Carlotta Nonnis Marzano and Irene Lopez secured a 6-3 win over Alessia Piccoliori and Francina Puig Llompa. However, SCAD edged out narrow wins in the remaining two doubles matches to claim the team point. Lisa Konrad and Yue Yu slipped past Irene Parigi and Isabella Bolivar Garces in the No. 2 spot, while Adeline Flanagan and Cherry Xiang held on for a tight 7-5 win over Neleah Neiberline and Rebekah Schatz at No. 3.
SCAD-Savannah then claimed straight-set victories in the first three singles matches to seal the overall win.
Piccoliori earned the first singles point for SCAD with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Neiberline at the No. 1 position. Flanagan matched that result at the No. 6 spot with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Isabella Forcella. Yu clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Bolivar Garces at No. 2 singles.
Several matches were left unfinished with SEU showing promise. Nonnis Marzano led Xiang 6-3, 2-3 at No. 1 singles before play was halted. Parigi also won her first set 6-2 and was tied 1-1 in the second against Puig Llompa at the No. 4 spot. At No. 5 singles, Konrad led Lopez 6-3, 4-1.
The loss was Southeastern's first since falling to No. 1 Keiser on March 22, snapping a six-match winning streak. The Fire now stand at 16-6 on the season.
