PARK CITY, Kan. – The Fire have never had a day as successful as they did on Saturday. Gage Braun will battle for another 285-pound national title, while a program-record eight Fire wrestlers are guaranteed NAIA All-American status, as the team has all but wrapped up third place after day two of the NAIA Wrestling National Championship.
Gage Braun produced a pair of bonus-point wins on his way to defeating two top-eight opponents and qualifying for Saturday evening's National Championship bout.
SEU has seven other wrestlers continuing their quests in the consolation rounds on Saturday: Aaron Lucio and Andrew Voiles (133), Kael Brisker (141), Mario De La Torre (149), Anthony Federico (165), and Gentry Smith (197) will all compete for third place in their respective weight classes. Trace Braun makes it eight SEU members advancing to Day 3, as he will compete for 7th place in the 174-pound bracket.
In the team standings, Grand View, Life University, and SEU have separated themselves as the clear top three squads. Grand View leads at the top spot with 176.5 points, while Life (125.0) and SEU (107.0) are behind in second and third. Doane University is a distant fourth, with 63.5 points.
