LAKELAND, Fla.- After a successful 4-0 start to the 2025 season, the Fire softball team will head to Thomasville, Ga., where they will take on a pair of familiar opponents on their first road trip of the season.
SEU started their season off with two doubleheader sweeps, defeating the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, 5-4 and 13-5, as well as the Thomas University Night Hawks, one of the two teams they will face this weekend.
Their weekend starts with a single game against Thomas, where they will look to sweep the regular season series. The Fire bested the Night Hawks twice this season already, with a 3-0 shutout win, and a 6-2 win in the second game during opening weekend.
Leah Gonzalez led the charge offensively with two home runs in two games, and pitchers
Edan Playa and
Maria Zelenka both tossed complete game wins. The Fire currently lead the all-time series over Thomas, 28-12.
Games two and three of their weekend in Georgia will place SEU in a top-25 matchup, where they will take on the ninth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies. The two teams most recently met last season in the NAIA Opening Round, where SEU fell to the Grizzlies, 4-0. The Fire will be looking for their first win against GGC in program history, as they have lost the first four games against the Grizzlies all-time.
The weekend will kick off for the Fire today against Thomas, with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
