SEU Stays Unbeaten with Commanding Win Over Goshen

Herman drops 20, Field posts double-double as Fire continue early-season momentum

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- SEU Women's Basketball remained unbeaten with another dominant performance Thursday night, defeating Goshen College 80-49 at the Cumberlands Classic. The Fire improved to 3-0 on the season behind balanced scoring, efficient shooting, and a relentless defensive effort that never allowed the Maple Leafs to find momentum.

The Fire established control early, forcing three turnovers in the opening minutes and turning them into fast-break layups from Mya Herman, who scored six of SEU's first eight points. Southeastern closed the first quarter on an 8-3 run, highlighted by layups from Mafalda Chambel, Rosa Redondo Sorribes, and Grace Pitzer, to take a 14-9 lead.

The second quarter saw the Fire's offense catch fire from the perimeter. Alley Haas buried two quick threes, Grace Field went to work inside, and Herman added another jumper to stretch the lead to double digits. Field was dominant on the glass, recording five offensive rebounds by halftime and extending possessions for easy second-chance points. Southeastern shot 56 percent from the field and 43 percent from three in the period, taking a 37-24 lead into the break.

Coming out of halftime, the Fire's balance and tempo overwhelmed Goshen. Herman and Haas combined for 11 points in the third quarter, while Kristiana Kulackovska and Chambel kept the offense organized. Southeastern's defense continued to frustrate the Maple Leafs, forcing six turnovers and holding their leading scorer, Lillian Null, to just one basket in the frame. SEU outscored Goshen 22-14 in the third and entered the final quarter up 59-38.

In the fourth, Southeastern's depth took over. Redondo Sorribes caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down three straight triples to stretch the lead past 25 points. Ellah Kissell and Eva Bishop each added buckets, and Sarah Davis anchored the defense late with six rebounds and a block. The Fire outscored Goshen 21-11 in the final period, building their largest lead of 33 points with just over two minutes remaining.

Herman led all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting and added two steals. Field turned in a double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. Haas added 12 points, all from three-point range, while Redondo Sorribes provided 11 off the bench. Kulackovska filled the stat sheet with four points, eight rebounds, four assists, and a block, and Chambel handed out six assists.

Southeastern shot 49.2 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from three, and went 6-for-6 from the line while holding Goshen to 37.7 percent shooting and forcing 18 turnovers. The Fire scored 27 points off turnovers, 36 in the paint, and 26 from their bench.

The Fire return to action Friday to face Defiance College, looking to close out a perfect week at the Cumberlands Classic.
