SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The SEU Men's Basketball team moved to 2–0 on the young season with a 77–61 road win over Spartanburg Methodist on Wednesday night inside Bridges Arena. Southeastern never trailed after the opening minutes, using a 9–2 surge midway through the first half to break open a close game and carry a 39–30 advantage into halftime. The Fire led by as many as 20 in the second half and controlled the glass and tempo throughout to stay unbeaten.
Nathan Mikkelson anchored the effort with a double-double, finishing with 19 points and 14 rebounds on 8-for-16 shooting. The senior forward was a force on both ends, collecting 11 defensive boards and scoring 15 of his points after halftime to help SEU keep its distance.
Jayson Nixon added 14 points and knocked down three of his six attempts from beyond the arc, while
Mylo Santos contributed 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
LaDavian King provided an energetic spark off the bench with 12 points and five rebounds, and
Jarin Edwards chipped in eight points, including six free throws.
Daivion Traylor was also efficient, scoring eight points on 4-for-6 shooting and recording a block.
As a team, the Fire shot 44.3% from the floor and hit seven threes while limiting the Pioneers to just 6.7% (1-for-15) from long range. SEU also won the rebounding battle 41–29, including 14 offensive boards, and they turned 11 Spartanburg turnovers into 12 points.
Spartanburg Methodist was led by CJ Terrell's 16 points, while Tavarez Lacey added 14.
SEU will look to keep rolling as the road trip continues Friday at 3 p.m. against Columbia International University in Columbia, S.C.
