DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- SEU Wrestling showcased depth and competitive balance throughout a demanding day at the Lucha Open, producing a long list of winning records and several top-eight finishes across multiple weight classes. SEU had 19 wrestlers earn at least two victories, signaling strong development as the early season continues.
At 157 pounds,
Michael Shannon turned in the team's best record at 5-2, securing a 7th-place finish while navigating one of the tournament's most crowded brackets. He was joined by
Justin Krebs (3-2) and
Ryan Bennett (2-2), giving the Fire consistent production at the weight.
The Fire also excelled in the lower weights, highlighted by Christopher Dinsdale, who battled to a 4-3 record and earned 8th place in the Silver bracket at 133 pounds, giving SEU its lone placement in the Silver division. Dinsdale's seven-match day reflected both endurance and steady progression. At 125 pounds,
Erick Hair delivered a solid 2-2 outing, adding needed depth to the opening weight class.
SEU's middleweights were steady and reliable throughout the event. At 141,
Drew Jones and Joseph Hutchins both posted 3-2 marks, showing efficient scoring and strong mat awareness. At 174,
Ty Rodriguez (3-3, 8th) led the way with a top-eight finish, while
Tyson Barnhart,
Lane Reardon, and
Husam Mustafa each contributed 2-2 performances.
The upper weights produced some of the day's most consistent results. At 184,
Jonathan Vanderbilt (3-2, 4th) and
Tyler Hanna (3-3, 8th) anchored a productive group that also included winning records from
Kai Shultz and
Derek Washington. At 197,
Gentry Smith (3-2) and
Ralph Sanchez (3-2) combined for six wins, continuing the Fire's strong showing in the heavier brackets. Heavyweight
Bryce Wheatley added a 2-2 record to round out the lineup.
Overall, the Fire's performance featured strong collective depth, valuable in-match adjustments, and encouraging signs as the group prepares for a busy December schedule.
