LAKELAND, Fla. -- SCAD Savannah capitalized on its first-half chances to hand SEU a 3-0 defeat Thursday night at the SEU Soccer Field in Sun Conference action.
The Bees opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Leon Grube found the back of the net off an assist from German Moreno. Just six minutes later, Grube helped double the lead—setting up Mario Goic for his eighth goal of the season. SCAD maintained control throughout the first half, applying pressure in the attacking third and keeping the Fire from registering a shot before intermission.
Southeastern generated more offense in the second half, with attempts from
Francesco Calicchio,
Miguel Londono, and
Guilherme Viserta, but all three were off target. The Fire were unable to convert possession into quality looks as SCAD's defense stayed compact and denied lanes through the middle.
An own goal in the 76th minute extended the Bees' lead to 3-0, and that score would hold through the final whistle.
Emmanuel Uwazie finished with one save in goal for SEU, while the Fire were outshot 8-3 and trailed 6-1 in corner kicks.
Southeastern is now 3-4-3 overall and 1-1-1 in Sun Conference play. The Fire will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 11, traveling to Babson Park to face Webber International at 3 p.m.
