Cooil Converts, Fire Denied Equalizer in Sun Road Clash

SEU comes up one goal shy in 2–1 loss at New College

SARASOTA, Fla. -- SEU Men's Soccer dropped a 2–1 decision on the road Saturday afternoon, falling to New College of Florida at the Bayfront. The Fire moved to 4-6-3 overall and 2-3-1 in Sun Conference play, while the Banyans improved to 10-3-1 and 3-3 in league action.

New College struck first in the 23rd minute when Cameron Johnson scored his 12th goal of the season, assisted by Martin Pascual. The hosts extended their lead midway through the second half as Ducamel Jeannestin found the back of the net in the 65th minute to make it 2–0.

Southeastern responded just over a minute later when defender Adam Cooil converted in the 66th minute for his third goal of the season. Cooil led the Fire with three shots—all on frame—while goalkeeper Noah Murray-Hawkins made five saves to keep SEU within striking distance.

Despite generating late chances, including a header from Carson Cajuste that was turned away in the 84th minute, the Fire were unable to find the equalizer. SEU finished with seven shots, five of which were on target, while both sides combined for 27 fouls in a physical conference clash.

Southeastern will look to bounce back next weekend when the Fire travel to Lake Wales to face Warner University on Saturday, October 25, at 7 p.m.
