LAKELAND, Fla. -- SEU Men's Soccer battled hard against one of the nation's top teams but ultimately fell 2–0 to No. 6 Keiser University Wednesday afternoon at the SEU Soccer Field.
The Fire held their ground through much of the opening half before the Seahawks broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute on a finish from Francis Bolland off an assist by Mohammed Mouzoune. Keiser added a second goal midway through the second half when Santiago Duque found the back of the net in the 64th minute.
Southeastern generated quality looks of its own, including on-target efforts from
Jman Dieng,
Fabio De Paula, and
Tapiwa Kufakurowa, but Keiser goalkeeper Santiago Nebot turned away all three shots on goal to preserve the shutout.
Goalkeeper
Noah Murray-Hawkins posted five saves for the Fire, including several key stops during a first half that saw Keiser earn six corner kicks. The Seahawks held a 12–6 advantage in total shots and 8–1 in corners, while Southeastern stayed organized defensively despite multiple cautions in the physical contest.
The Fire move to 4-5-3 overall and 2-2-1 in Sun Conference play, while Keiser remained unbeaten at 11-0-1 and 4-0 in the league. Southeastern will look to rebound when it travels to New College of Florida on Saturday, October 18, for a 1 p.m. kickoff in Sarasota, Fla.
