Southeastern enters the weekend undefeated at 3–0, carrying one of the NAIA's most balanced attacks and a defense that has stood among the nation's best through three games. The Fire are averaging 35.7 points per game while rushing for more than 214 yards per contest, ranking eighth nationally in rushing offense. Defensively, SEU has been equally dominant, surrendering just 15.3 points per game and ranking in the top 15 nationally in scoring, rushing, passing, and total defense.

Southeastern's early-season success has propelled them into the national polls. The Fire are ranked No. 10 in the NAIA, their first top-10 appearance since 2017, while also sitting at No. 11 in the Victory Sports Network poll and No. 13 in the NAIAFBALL media poll. Computer ratings also reflect SEU's momentum, with the Fire ranked 21st by Massey Ratings and 16th by VersusSportsSimulator.

Lions in the Den
Florida Memorial comes to Lakeland at 1–2 overall after earning its first win of the season last week. The Lions average just under 24 points per game, splitting production between their rushing and passing attacks, while their defense has been tested heavily against the run, allowing more than 175 yards per game. Running backs Jerodd Sims and Nygel Osborne both rank among the Sun Conference's top four in rushing yards per game, giving FMU balance out of the backfield. Quarterback David Buggs has added 161.3 passing yards per game, ranking fourth in the league.

Tune In, Fire Nation

The game will be streamed live on the Urban Edge Network, available through Smart TV and mobile apps as well as online at fire.seu.edu/watchUEN. Real-time statistics will also be available at fire.seu.edu/sidearmstats/football, providing up-to-the-minute updates on scoring, drives, and individual performances as Southeastern opens Sun Conference play.

A Short History Lesson
Southeastern and Florida Memorial will meet for the fifth time on Saturday in a series that began in 2021. The Fire hold a 3–1 all-time advantage, including a 2–1 mark at Victory Field and a 1–0 record in Miami Gardens. SEU won the first three matchups, highlighted by a 41–13 road victory in 2022, before the Lions claimed their first win in the series last fall with a 35–24 result in Lakeland.

Through the four meetings, Southeastern has averaged 30.0 points per game while limiting FMU to just 17.0 per contest. The series has featured strong defensive performances from the Fire in the early years, before last season's shootout gave the Lions their breakthrough win.

Trend Lines
Southeastern has enjoyed success historically in games played on October 4, holding a 2–0 record on the date. The last appearance came in 2016 when the Fire rolled to a 51–7 victory at home over Edward Waters, marking the second straight win for SEU on that date.

This week also marks the Fire's fourth game of the season, a scenario in which SEU has posted a 7–4 all-time record. Overall, Southeastern stands at 78–28 in program history, including a 46–14 mark in Lakeland and a 62–21 record in games played within Florida. The Fire have thrived in night contests with a 55–18 all-time record under the lights, and they are equally strong on Saturdays, going 73–27 in such games. Entering October, SEU holds a 30–10 all-time record in the month, looking to extend that tradition of success as they open conference play.

Slow Starts, Strong Finishes
One area to watch for Southeastern has been its tendency to start slowly before finding rhythm as games progress. Through three contests, the Fire have been outscored 20–13 in the first quarter and have trailed in the first half of each of their past two games. However, once settled in, SEU has flipped the script, outscoring opponents 34–13 in the second quarter, 27–7 in the third, and 33–6 in the fourth, building a decisive 107–46 scoring margin on the season.

A key factor in that turnaround has been dominance in the "Middle Eight," the critical stretch covering the final four minutes of the first half and the opening four minutes of the second. Southeastern has owned that segment of games by a combined 27–0 margin, including a 10–0 swing at Faulkner and a 14–0 burst against Reinhardt. That ability to seize momentum around halftime has been instrumental in preserving SEU's unbeaten start.

Conversion Rate
Efficiency on third down and in the red zone has been another strength for Southeastern through the first three games. The Fire have converted 16 of 35 third-down opportunities (46%), ranking 13th in the NAIA, while holding opponents to just 12 of 35 (34%) on third down.

In the red zone, Southeastern has scored on 16 of 18 trips (89%), ranking 21st nationally, and that number improves to 16 of 17 when removing end-of-half kneel downs. The Fire opened the year by cashing in on their first 14 red-zone possessions, finishing drives consistently in the early part of the schedule. Overall, SEU has produced 12 touchdowns on 18 total red-zone trips (67%), good for 35th nationally.

On the other side of the ball, Southeastern's defense has been equally tough inside the 20, allowing just three touchdowns on five opponent red-zone chances.

Passing Precision
Quarterback Nate Mikell has continued to grow as the leader of the Fire offense, and his efficiency has set him apart across the Sun Conference. He tops the league in passing efficiency at 152.65, showing both accuracy and smart decision-making. Mikell has completed over 63 percent of his throws for 513 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 171.0 passing yards per game, which places him third in the conference. His 59-yard connection with Daithan Davis remains one of the Fire's biggest plays through the air this season.

Ground Control
The Fire ground attack has been one of the most consistent in the NAIA, and it starts with two of the league's top backs. Jocquet Jiles leads the Sun Conference in rushing at 68.0 yards per game, showing big-play ability with a long rush of 39 yards and three touchdowns on the season. Right behind him is Curtis Kimmons, who ranks fourth in the Sun with 62.7 yards per game and a team-high four rushing scores. Together, the duo has combined for over 390 yards, giving Southeastern balance and power in the backfield. Quarterback Mikell has added more than 100 yards on the ground, while Nathan Carter and others have provided depth, giving SEU multiple ways to attack on the ground.

Catch & Release
Southeastern's passing game has spread the wealth through the early part of the season. While no Fire player ranks in the Sun's top five in receiving yards per game, the group has been efficient and timely. Kamonte Grimes leads the way with nine receptions for 142 yards, averaging nearly 16 yards per catch. Alex Reyes has chipped in 89 yards, showing explosive ability with a 45-yard grab, while Daithan Davis has been a reliable red-zone option, catching two touchdowns and averaging 40 yards per game. David Pomales and Chandler Jones have also added scoring receptions, giving the Fire five different receivers with a touchdown through three games.

Defensive Sparks
On the defensive side, Thomas Ibrahim has been one of the Sun Conference's most dominant players, leading the league with 4.5 sacks and piling up 22 total tackles and 8.0 tackles for loss in just three games. His production up front has anchored a defense that ranks first in the league in both scoring defense (15.3 points per game) and total defense (231.3 yards per game). Linebacker Michyl Shaw has added 17 tackles and a half-tackle for loss, while Brady Nowlan has contributed 15 tackles with two sacks, helping fuel a disruptive front seven. In the secondary, Jamil Jones has emerged as a ballhawk with two interceptions and 36 return yards, while Ian Jolly has been active in coverage with a team-high six pass breakups.

Special Teams Sparks
Special teams have been another source of strength for the Fire, giving them consistency in the kicking game and explosiveness in the return units. Joel McGrath has connected on 4 of 5 field goals (80%), including makes from 23 and 35 yards at Faulkner, and has added 11 extra points for 23 total points, ranking second on the team in scoring. He has also handled punting duties, averaging 36.6 yards per punt with five placed inside the 20-yard line.

Kickoff specialist Logan Navis has averaged 61.9 yards per kick with five touchbacks, consistently forcing opponents into long fields. In the return game, Jamil Jones has been a spark on punts, averaging 21.4 yards per return with a long of 41, while Jocquet Jiles has added impact in kickoff returns, averaging 34.0 yards on two returns, including a 50-yard burst that set up a scoring drive.
