Fire Make a Late Charge, but Fall to Lions

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Fire ran out of time to complete the Saturday afternoon comeback. Southeastern University cut a double-digit deficit down to two points late, but host Florida Memorial posted the final five points for a 59-52 win in Sun Conference women's basketball action today.

Trailing 46-35 with 7:54 remaining, SEU's Grace Field dumped in three-straight layups and cut the difference to seven, 52-45. Anaya Coleman and Mya Herman drained back-to-back treys and drew to within two points, 54-52, the closest the Fire had been since 3:48 left in the second quarter. However, Florida Memorial netted the final five points as SEU had a turnover and misfired on its final two shots from the field.

The Lions (15-2) claimed their second win of the season over the Fire (17-4). With the win, Florida Memorial also moves one game ahead of SEU in the Sun Conference standings.

After reaching 30 points in each of her last two outings, Jodi Mullins was held to 15 points to go with four assists and a steal. Field posted a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds along with four steals, two assists, and a blocked shot.

Coleman finished with nine points, all on 3-pointers, and added four assists and three boards. Herman contributed eight points, three rebounds and two steals. Kassidy Jones chipped in three points, two rebounds and a pair of steals, while Rosa Sorribes made both of her field goals and both free throws for six points.

Agar Farres Garcia and Kamesha Moore both netted 17 points in leading Florida Memorial.

SEU looks to bounce back on Wednesday night when College of Coastal Georgia comes to Lakeland. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m..
