Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla. – The winning streak continues. Jodi Mullins poured in a season-high 30 points, leading Southeastern University to it's eighth win in a row as they defeated Warner University, 82-62, in Sun Conference women's basketball action this evening.
After Warner cut the Fire lead down to three points in the early minutes of the second half, SEU's long-rang arsenal was unleashed. Mullins drained back-to-back treys over 44 seconds starting a 15-2 run. The guard added a third triple in the run, which drove the Fire advantage to 15 points, 56-41, with 3:26 left in the third. SEU sealed the victory with a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter, pushing the lead to 22 and never looking back.
With the victory, SEU improves their record to 16-3 (5-1 SUN). Warner dropped to 5-12 and 1-5 in the Sun Conference. The Fire are now in a tie for first place in the Sun with Florida Memorial, who dropped a 60-54 decision to St. Thomas in Miami Gardens.
SEU hit its shots at a higher rate from beyond the arc than inside it, 48.5% (16-of-33) to 46.7%. The Fire turned the Royals over 24 times, including 21 steals, but lost the rebounding battle, 35-23.
Mullins connected on 8-of-15 field goals, 7-of-11 from 3-point range, and 7-of-8 free throws for 30 points and handed out five assists. SEU also saw its other four starters reach double figures. Mya Herman went 7-of-14 with three treys for 17 points and had an atypical double-double by adding 10 steals. Anaya Coleman and Kassidy Jones contributed 11 points apiece, including two 3-pointers. Coleman finished with four steals, three rebounds, two assists, and a block while Jones had four assists.
Grace Field pulled down almost half of SEU's rebounds with 11 as she made all three of her field goal attempts for seven points along with six assists and four steals. Rosa Sorribes added three points, two rebounds and two steals. Alley Haas chipped in three points, while Ariana Smuda grabbed four boards and blocked three shots.
Warner's effort was led by Bethany Howard's 13 points.
SEU will have the next week off before they host Ave Maria next Wednesday in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
