MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Southeastern came out strong and never looked back, defeating Florida Memorial, 3-0, in The Sun Conference opener for both teams.
Set scores were 25-16, 25-16 and 25-10.
"I'm so proud of our effort tonight," said head coach Amanda Phelps. "We're excited to kick off conference play with a win, but the work has just begun. This group is hungry and I'm excited to what else they can do."
Cambry Pope led the way with 10 kills, while she and Jacqueline Christian each had 3 aces.
Haven Speer (16 assists) and
Alexandra Postlethwaite (15) controlled the offense for the fire, who added 10 aces on the night.
It was SEU's fourth consecutive win, and the seventh in a row over the Lions, as the Fire improve to 6-2 (1-0). The Lions fall to 1-8 (0-1).
SEU returns to action when they host New College of Florida in the home opener next Wednesday, September 11.
