Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern University finished strong in each set and swept past Webber International, 3-0, in Sun Conference women's volleyball action.
Starting in the opening set tied at 21, the Fire scored the last four points for the 25-21 final. Leading 24-21 after a Yarelis Lopez kill in set number two, Cambry Pope made it two-straight sets with the final winner for a 25-22 score. Trailing 24-23 in the third set, Pope belted two kills in a row and a Warrior attack error finished the night in a 26-24 match-ending point.
Pope downed a team-best 16 kills to go with seven digs and a pair of aces. Lopez added eight kills, dug 13 attacks and lined an ace. Kennedy Jones hit a solid seven kills to go with 10 digs and two aces. Sylvia Liszewski hit a Fire-best .429 with seven kills over 14 attacks, while Chapel Cunningham had five kills and three blocks.
Haven Speer handed out 25 assists and had nine digs, while fellow setter Alexandra Postlethwaite dished 14 assists with five digs and an ace. Marysa Connors led the backcourt with 19 digs and three assists. Camdyn Gebhards rounded out the stat sheet with four kills.
With the win, the Fire (11-2) won their ninth straight and remain perfect in the league at 5-0. Webber International drops to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in the SUN.
SEU will have a week off before they travel to Lake Wales, Fla., for a meeting with rival Warner University on Wednesday night, October 2, starting at 7 p.m.
