LAKE WALES, Fla. – Southeastern University scored two early goals and the defense did the rest in a shutout win over rival Warner University, 2-0, in Sun Conference women's soccer action.
From the opening shot, it was the Fire's day. Rebecca Laface booted home the first shot at 8:14 and it was all SEU from there. After two more shots on net, Ariadna Lozano made it a two-goal lead with 19:24 elapsed. For the first half, SEU blasted the first six shots, all on goal, of the match before Warner had its first one turned away at 25:39.
SEU goalie Ella Sebree and the visitors' defense held Warner scoreless the entire second 45 minutes and five shots on the goal. For the match, Sebree recorded seven saves.
With the win, SEU snapped a five game losing streak and moved to 3-5-1 (2-3 SUN) on the year. The Fire also extended their 12-game win streak over Warner (3-4-1/0-4 SUN).
Both Laface and Olivia Thomassy led the SEU attack with two shots on goal apiece. Following the opening tally, Thomassy and Katie Carnes put boots on goal before the Lozano goal.
The Fire return to action next Saturday, October 5th, when they travel to Sarasota to face New College of Florida. Kick-off is at 5 p.m.
