The Southeastern volleyball team heads to the Viper Sports Academy Classic in West Palm Beach for their season opener, where they will play in three contests over two days.
After a 22-5 season and a trip to the Sun Conference Tournament championship. The Fire, with new head coach Amanda Phelps, look forward to building on their success in the upcoming season.
SEU returns 11 players from last season, and welcomes four transfers, and three freshmen. Seniors
Alexandra Postlethwaite,
Cambry Pope, and
Chapel Cunningham, who contributed heavily to the offensive attack last season, look to guide the Fire on the court. Â
The team begins their run through the regular season with Spartanburg Methodist College on August 16th. This will be the first meeting between the two teams, however, not the first meeting for Coach Phelps. At Lake-Sumter State last season, Phelps split the season series with the Pioneers.
Spartanburg Methodist returns their top three leading scorers from last year, Aurora Aho, Brantlie Price, and Kendall Meinders, who accounted for 59 percent of the team's points last year. Aho, alongside her 351 kills, added 329 digs. Hannah Vucinic looks to give the Pioneers more scoring opportunities as she comes off a 410 dig season. First serve of this contest is at 6 p.m..
The Fire take on the Olivet Nazarene Tigers the following morning at 8:00 a.m.. These two teams have seen each other once, and the Tigers came out victorious 3-1 in a neutral site match in Miami Gardens in 2021. Cunningham and Postlethwaite took part in that contest and Postlethwaite looks to top her game-leading 40 assists from that match.
Two hours later the Fire will battle the University of the Cumberlands who they have only seen once in their history. The Fire overcame a second set loss in that 2020 contest, prevailing 3-1.Â
The Patriots are looking to return to the NAIA National Tournament, after being bounced by Point Park last season in the Opening Round. Outside Hitter Allyson Grava heads up the Patriot offense, scoring 492.5 points last year, 453 of which were kills. The assist leader for Patriots is senior setter Kendall Arnold, who contributed 1296 last year. Defensively, libero Juliet Banks registered  617 digs.
