Baseball Cruises To Championship Game

LINCOLN, Neb.- Southeastern's 50th win of the season came in dramatic fashion, with three home runs, a complete game 13 strikeout performance, and a new SEU record, as they defeated the USAO Drovers 7-2.

The top of the first inning saw two of the three long balls, with Isaac Nunez picking up one of two home runs in the game to get the Fire on the board. Gary Lora followed him up with his 48th career home run at SEU, setting a new program record for career home runs. Josh Pigozzo also joined in on the fun in the first inning, driving home Alfonso Villalobos on an RBI single.

The rest of the offense for the Fire came in the top of the fourth inning, with Nunez getting his second of the game, this time a 3-run shot. Nunez went 4-for-5 on the afternoon with five RBI's. Lora and Pigozzo also had multi-hit days, with two and three hits each, respectively.

The pitching side of things was kept fairly simple, with a nine-inning complete game effort from Darien Smith. The Sun Conference Pitcher of the Year earned his 12th win of the season, striking out 13 batters and walking just one, and allowed just one earned.

With just three other teams left in the Lincoln Bracket, Southeastern will await the last team standing out of USAO, Mount Mercy, and Doane, and will face one of them tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. CT, for a trip to the world series.
