LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern finished the regular season with a doubleheader split with Keiser to finish 34-15 and in third place in The Sun Conference standings at 14-7.
The Fire took the first game thanks to a late rally by the count of 5-2 and racked up 15 hits in the second but fell 7-4.
Senior pitcher
Claire Sekinger was perfect through 4.1 innings of work until a batter reached on an error in the fifth and back-to-back walks loaded the bases with one out. A hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly tied the game 2-2.
Hailey Brooks doubled home
Lauren Sekinger in the fifth as part of her 3-for-3 showing to give the Fire the lead back. In the sixth,
Raylei McKinney, whose first inning double got the Fire on the board first hit her second home run of the weekend with a no-doubt, two-run blast to left field.
McKinney was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Chapel Cunningham added a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored.
Maria Zelenka picked up her third win of the season, working 2.2 innings in relief with a pair of strikeouts.
Keiser came out swinging in the second game, getting three hits in their first three at bats, culminating with a two-run double to left field. A first and third play yielded a run in the third and another RBI double made it 4-0 heading into the bottom of the third.
Cunningham's bunt single scored
Ella Brooks in the third and Sanders scored on a first and third play to bring the Fire within two.
Keiser answered right back in the fourth with two runs, taking advantage of a two-out error to push the lead back to four. Cunningham brought home another run in the sixth and a throwing error scored Sanders to get back within two. A seventh-inning error gave the Seahawks some extra padding.
Cunningham finished 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Hailey Brooks added three more hits.
Alex Hilton went 2-for-3 off the bench.
The Fire will begin play at The Sun Conference Tournament in Clearwater on Thursday.
