Baseball Takes Series Over Keiser in Regular Season Finale

Fire Baseball took the series with Keiser this afternoon, winning three games to one. This included a defensive showdown in game one of today's doubleheader that went all the way to the twelfth inning, where the Fire won 6-4. Game two of the doubleheader played out much differently with the Fire dominating all the way, winning 13-2 in eight innings.

Game three of the four game series versus the Seahawks seemed to be in the Fire's control as they led 3-0 heading into the seventh. Ramsey David was performing strongly racking up ten strikeouts, only allowing two hits and two walks. Olvis Genao replaced David in the sixth inning, concluding the inning with two strikeouts of his own.

The seventh inning was when Keiser opened up the scoring, adding four runs on two hits and two errors to push themselves ahead in the game for the first time all day 4-3. Southeastern tied it back up in the top of the eighth as Alfonso Villalobos contributed his third RBI of the game, driving home Josh Pigozzo on a single to center field.

Villalobos added three hits and three RBIs, Pigozzo was hit by two pitches, notching a couple of singles and crossed home plate twice.

Jake Cohen pitched well, striking out four, saving the Fire in the ninth when he entered with the bases loaded and the game tied. Cohen was able to force the final out with a popout to shortstop Isaac Nunez to send the game to extra innings.

Nunez was the catalyst of the ballgame reaching base every time he came up to the plate. Nunez was 5-for-5 with three RBIs, two stolen bases, and two runs scored. The most critical hit of the game came from Nunez as he crushed a ball over the left field wall in the top of the twelfth to give the Fire a 6-4 lead.

Cohen finished off the game with four strikeouts and one hit allowed through 3.1 innings of work. Delivering the final out of the game securing for the Fire their 43rd win of the season in a defensive showdown.

Game two of the doubleheader was working itself out very similarly until the fifth inning.

The first four innings went scoreless for the Seahawks, but the Fire were able to capture three runs as Tommy Davis ripped a shot into right center field, tripling and emptying the loaded bases. This put the Fire ahead 3-0.

Danny Batcher started the game for the Fire, finishing with four innings pitched, two strikeouts and only one hit allowed.

It was the fifth inning where the majority of the damage happened. Southeastern was able to capitalize on some errant pitching from Keiser, Nunez walked on four pitches, Gary Lora singled to push Nunez to second, and Pigozzo walked right after that to load the bases. That was when the Fire were able to reach first on a walk with four consecutive batters, sending home four runs extending the Fire lead to 7-0.

Cristopher Munoz ended the base on balls streak in the top of the fifth with the Fire's second three RBI triple of the game. This got Southeastern to their 10-0 lead. Villalobos tacked on one more run in the inning to make the lead 11-0. In the fifth, the Fire scored eight runs on only four hits. Munoz went 2-3, and added a stolen base on the game.

The Seahawks never gave up, ruining the Fire's chance for a seven inning game with an RBI double into left field in the sixth, followed up by an RBI single in the seventh, making it an 11-2 game.

Southeastern went on to tack on two more runs in the top of the eighth, and Cobe Reeves finished the deal.

The game finished with 13 Fire batters getting walked. Lora scored three runs on 2-for-3 hitting, Pigozzo walked three times, and Davis drove home four RBIs.

The Fire finished their regular season 44-6, 22-2 SUN, and the Seahawks finished 29-19, 9-15 SUN.

The Fire return to action for the Sun Conference Tournament that starts May 2, and will be held in Fort Myers, Fla. at JetBlue Park.
