Softball Gears Up For Last Home Series

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Fire will host their last series of the season this weekend against the Keiser University Seahawks. 

Coming into the weekend, Southeastern is third in the SUN with a record of 12-6, and Keiser follows at fourth with a record of 11-7. The Fire still have a chance to tie for Sun Conference regular season champions, in search of a sweep and help this weekend. 

The Fire leads the SUN in hits with 418 on the season. They are hitting .330 through the 47 games played, which is also the highest in the conference. Southeastern's pitching staff ranks second in the conference with a combined ERA of 1.76.

Edan Playa leads the conference in pitching with a 0.90 ERA, giving up only 15 earned runs through 117.1 innings pitched. Last Friday in the 4-0 win versus No. 22 Coastal Georgia, Playa threw a complete game shutout, giving up five hits and striking out three batters. 

Chapel Cunningham leads the SUN in hits with 73 on the year, batting .438 this season. Riley Sanders leads in stolen bases with 39 on 40 attempts. Cunningham follows in second with 36 on 39 attempts. 

The Seahawks come into the weekend with a 33-12 overall record (11-7 SUN).  They are coming off a series win over Warner University, who they beat 2-1 in the three games played. In game one, they fell 1-0 to the Royals, but bounced back the next day and took game two 3-1 and game three 10-2. 

Keiser comes into the series batting .322 as a team. Offensively, they are led by Tes DeBono, who is first in the SUN in hitting with a .470 average. The Keiser pitching staff combines for an ERA of 1.93, putting them at third in the SUN. Collectively, they have struckout 128 opponents, walked 75 batters, and given up 308 hits through 301.1 innings. 

The series will take place at the SEU Softball Field starting Friday at 2 p.m.. Games two and three will follow on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Before the start of the double header on Saturday, the Fire will honor their four seniors, Autumn Hunter, Claire Sekinger, Alex Hilton, and Riley Sanders.
