Softball Looks To Take Top Conference Spot

LAKELAND, Fla.- Coming into this week, the Southeastern softball team is locked in a three way tie for first place in the Sun Conference standings, posting a 9-3 (29-11 overall) conference record, along with St. Thomas and #19 Coastal Georgia. Southeastern lost the series 2-1 to St. Thomas, and will play Coastal Georgia next weekend.

This weekend, the Fire will travel to Babson Park to take on the Webber International Warriors in a three game series, who is currently eighth in the conference standings with an overall record of 16-23 (2-10 SUN). They will seek to break their six game losing streak this weekend, led by Thalia Romero, who is out in front of her team with an even .400 batting average, also leading with 18 RBIs and 11 extra base hits.

Webber posts a team 3.42 ERA, and are looking to beat Southeastern in a series for the first time since 2019. In the two teams' relatively young history, Southeastern holds an 18-14 all-time advantage, with the Fire boasting a 6-4 record against the Warriors in their last ten matchups.

Fire softball look to build on their momentum, coming off of a three-game sweep over the Warner Royals. Chapel Cunningham has been red hot as of late, and continues to lead her team with a .460 average, and leads her team in hits by 16.

In the circle, Southeastern has proved impressive this season, holding the ninth-best ERA in the NAIA at 1.64. Freshman Edan Playa has been dominating, posting a 1.11 ERA, and a team best 11-2 record.

First pitch between the Fire and Warriors will take place this Friday at 4 p.m.
