LAKELAND, Fla.—Three Southeastern pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and allowed just three hits in an 8-0 win over No. 7 Bellevue on Saturday.
Darien Smith picked up his fifth win of the season and dropped his ERA to 0.77 with five shutout innings. The senior allowed just two hits and fanned seven of the 17 he faced.
Ramsey David worked 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen with five strikeouts and five groundouts. He allowed one hit and walked one batter.
Smith retired the last eight hitters he faced and David retired the first five that he faced which spanned from the third inning to the seventh.
By that time, the Fire had a 2-0 lead thanks to a two-out solo home run by Christopher Munoz in the third for SEU's first hit of the game. In the fourth,
Landrey Wilkerson laid down a perfect bunt for the second day in a row to score a crucial run and was able to beat the throw at first base with two outs to score
Isaac Nunez who singles to left to lead off the inning.
During the seventh, Munoz made it a 3-0 game with an RBI fielder's choice to score Wilkerson.
In its last at-bat of the game, the Fire broke the game open with five runs on four hits. Nunez led off the inning with a double to center field and scored on a single by
Gary Lora. A double by Wilkerson scored two more. Lora scored on a pinch hit RBI single by
Matt Delay, and Wilkerson scored on a wild pitch, tip-toeing around an attempted tag at the plate.
Wilkerson finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Nunez added two hits.
The Fire will begin Sun Conference play on Thursday at Webber International.
