WALESKA, Ga.- After an explosive 19-6 win to open the series, Fire baseball were held at bay in games two and three, losing their first series of the season after dropping game three 12-5 to the #11 Reinhardt Eagles. This loss moved Southeastern to 29-4 (8-0 SUN) on the year.
Game three's defeat began with Reinhardt striking first, plating home a run in the bottom of the first, and adding on with a two-run third inning. Trailing by three runs, Southeastern was able to respond in the fourth with a two-out, two-run home run off the bat of
Cristopher Munoz, cutting the deficit to just one run. Reinhardt struck back immediately with a two-run home run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
The Eagles kept their foot on the gas, scoring six more, in which the Fire were unable to find answers until the top of the seventh, where they drove in three runs on four hits, on an RBI groundout from
Gary Lora and an RBI double from
Landrey Wilkerson, chipping into the deficit, but still falling short with Reinhardt adding on insurance late in the game.
The normally dominant SEU pitching staff struggled as a unit in game three, sending eight different pitchers to the mound, giving up 11 earned runs on 12 hits while surrendering seven walks. Offensively, the Fire earned themselves 12 hits, including five multi-hit games, however stranding ten runners on base is ultimately what killed the offense.
The Fire will continue their slate of away games next week with a 4 game conference series in Miami Gardens versus the Florida Memorial Lions. Game one will begin on Thursday afternoon.
