Softball Swept in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala.—Southeastern dropped both of its games at the Gulf Coast Invitational on Saturday, losing in extra innings to Lindsey Wilson and in a one-run game to Mobile.

The Fire rallied back from a two-run deficit against Lindsey Wilson, but fell 7-4 in eight innings then dropped a 3-2 game to Mobile to move to 9-7 on the season.

Riley Sanders picked up an RBI single in the fourth to get SEU on the board. Lauren Sekinger tied it with an RBI single to left, then Sanders scored on a first-and-third play to take a 3-2 lead.

The Blue Raiders regained the lead with a two-out RBI triple followed by an RBI single. Haley Brooks brought home Sanders in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at four and got runners to second and third with two outs but a strikeout prevented the Fire from walking off with the win.

LWC plated three in the eighth, highlighted by a two-out, two-run double.

Sanders and Leah Gonzalez had two hits each for the Fire. Autumn Hunter struck out seven over 6.2 innings of work.

Mobile scored in each of the first two innings, getting an RBI double in the first and sac fly in the second. An RBI single by Raylei McKinney brought home Chapel Cunningham in the third, but the Rams answered with an RBI single to center in the fifth.

The Fire loaded the bases in the seventh with nobody out but a strikeout after a pitching change helped turn the tide back toward Mobile as the Fire got just one run on Nicole Wasserstrom's RBI groundout and the game ended with a flyout to left.

Cunningham and Sanders had two hits each.

The Fire will take on Texas A&M San Antonio and Faulkner on Sunday.
