Fire Softball moves into week two of the regular season after posting a doubleheader sweep of #21 Reinhardt at home this past weekend. The Fire won the first game 4-2, and walked off on a two-run single by
Riley Sanders in the second game, claiming a 4-3 victory completing the sweep.
Ella Brooks was a standout, going 5-5 over the course of the two games, with two runs scored and one run batted in and
Chapel Cunningham added three hits of her own with two runs scored and one run batted in.
Autumn Hunter did all the pitching work in the first game of the doubleheader, throwing 137 pitches and striking out two and walking none, and
Claire Sekinger pitched six innings in the second game and struck out five, and Eden Playa finished out the game pitching the last inning.
This Friday the Fire welcome #20 Freed-Hardeman who have yet to play a game this season and will be facing off against Keiser on Thursday for their season opener.
In the all-time matchup, Freed-Hardeman leads the Fire 3-1, and the Fire will look to balance the scales and sweep the doubleheader. The first pitch of the first game will begin at 1 p.m., and the second game will start at 3 p.m.
On Friday the Fire will play host to a former Sun Conference rival, Thomas University which comes to visit having lost their first two games to Truett McConnell (2-2). Because of the former rivalry, the Fire lead the Night Hawks 24-12 all-time and are currently on a four-game win streak against Thomas and will look to add to it this weekend.
Thomas will look to rebound with strong batting after only posting seven hits in the doubleheader versus Truett-McConnell
The first pitch on Saturday will be at 12 p.m., and the second game of the doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m.
