Overwatch Shows Versatility With Win Over St. Thomas

Southeastern won the final map of the night to complete a 3-0 shutout victory against St. Thomas University in Overwatch 2, pushing their Sun Conference record above .500 on the season.

The Fire entered the contest dealing with major position changes on the roster. Tank player Eli Weltman (MiniBruno), a star from last week's win over Keiser, swapped to support, replaced Jakin Hawkins (FlameThief). The sudden change put Dakota Malizia (Wh1ze) in a starting tank role and promoted freshman Cameron Guadiano (Gooeysphere) into a starting DPS spot.
Anyone thinking the shuffled roles would throw Southeastern off their game were quickly silenced as the Fire quickly dispatched St. Thomas on the first control point map 2-0. The play of the game went to DPS player Avery Lanning (ZetaWolf) on Sombra.

The Bobcats were shut down offensively on map two, Kings Row, unable to secure a single tick on the payload point. The Fire responded by dominating the first fight of the second round, securing a tick to win map two. The play of the game came from Guadiano on Soldier 76, who took advantage of high ground and his visor to nearly secure a team kill.

Map three was a flashpoint map, one that the Fire struggled with a bit against Keiser. After giving up the first fight to the Bobcats, Southeastern rallied to capture three straight flashpoints, winning both the game and match. On map three Lanning was able to collect his second play of the game of the night, this time on Tracer.

Other notable performances were from Malizia, holding a strong front line filling in for Weltman. Both supports faired well in aiding Weltman and one of the best plays of the night came from team captain Michael Parsons on Baptist with a potentially fight saving immortality field to keep Weltman up on Kings Row. With three key position swaps, the Fire did not miss a beat, displaying both the depth and versatility the team has on their roster.

With the win over St. Thomas, the Fire move to 2-1
