Fire baseball comes off a successful weekend, sweeping their doubleheader on Saturday versus SAGU, winning both games 4-0 and 9-1, to move to 14-2 on the season.
Game one was a seven-inning game, and the more tame of the two games. The Fire were able to capitalize on the mistakes of their opponent, scoring two runs off of errors, and a two-RBI single from
Daniel Cerda. The pitching staff was the story of game one, as they shutout the Lions and only allowed one hit which came in the first inning.
Robb Adams got the day started on the mound for the Fire, posting six scoreless innings on just 64 pitches, fanning six and earning the win.
Jake Cohen then came in for a scoreless 0.2 innings, as well as
Colby Martin, striking out the one batter he faced.
Game two is when the bats came alive, winning 9-1 on ten hits. It started early for Southeastern, putting up a four-spot in the bottom of the first with two, two RBI singles from
Gary Lora and
Chayce Bryant.
Isaac Nunez responded to SAGU's only run of the day with an RBI double the inning after, and held on to a 5-1 lead until the seventh inning.Â
Inning number seven saw Southeastern put up four more runs, with RBI's coming from four different players.Â
Cobe Reeves picked up the win in game two, posting 4.0 innings, striking out five. Six different pitchers in game two combined for 14 strikeouts, allowing only four hits and one earned.
The Fire baseball team return to action at home on March 2nd, for a doubleheader against Roosevelt University and Grand View University.
