LAKELAND, Fla.—Fire softball ramps right back up with doubleheaders Thursday through Saturday this weekend trying to recover from a doubleheader split last Friday.
Southeastern cranked out 23 hits last Friday but just nine runs with a 7-1 win over New College of Florida and a 4-2 loss to Florida National to put its record at 6-2 on the year.
Ella Brooks and
Chapel Cunningham have 14 hits each in the first eight games. Brooks is hitting .609 with a .654 on-base percentage and Cunningham is hitting .452 with a .469 on-base percentage.
The team has been very active on the base paths with 31 steals in 32 attempts.
Riley Sanders and Brooks have eight each and Cunningham has added seven.
In the circle, Southeastern has a 1.81 team ERA with 48 strikeouts in 58 innings.
Thursday, Southeastern hosts Grand View with the all-time series between the two clubs tied at nine with the Vikings having won four of the last five meetings. Grand View has had no problem getting runners home during their 6-1 start having already plated 46 runs. Olivia Harmon and Kylie Merical have 10 hits each.
Jessica Walljasper was a Second-Team All-Heart pitcher last season and is 3-0 with a 1.75 ERA to start 2024.
On Friday and Saturday, Southeastern will take on the University of British Columbia which beat Warner last night twice to move to 2-2 on the year. The Thunderbirds went 24-21 last year and were 17-13 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Gabrielle Dorval has five hits and a pair of RBIs in the first four games and Riley Woodward has thrown 5.2 scoreless innings over a pair of appearances.
