Fire Defense Steps Up in Win Over Blue Raiders

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Fire we're going home without a win. Southeastern University's Mya Herman completed a 3-point play with two minutes left in the second quarter and her team never gave up the edge from there in a gritty, 56-52 victory over Lindsey Wilson College on the second day of the Rosa Stokes Classic.

The Fire took a 14-point lead at the 2:52 mark in the third quarter but the Blue Raiders stormed back to within a point twice, the final time coming with 26 seconds left. Grace Field and Jodi Mullins both sank a pair of free throws in the final ten seconds to seal the win for the Fire.

The Fire struggled from the field and from three-point range for the second consecutive game, but the defense forced 23 Lindsey Wilson turnovers to get back into the win column after last night's loss.

Along with her two key free throws, Field made 5-of-11 shots for a team-high 14 points and added six rebounds. Herman made half of her six shot attempts for nine points and handed out a pair of assists.

Off the bench, Alley Haas drained three treys for nine points with an assist, while Kassidy Jones added a triple in her seven points. Ariana Smuda chipped in six points, a team-high seven rebounds, and blocked a shot.

Jarie Thomas led the Blue Raiders with 13 points.

With the win, the Fire improve to 9-3 on the season. They take the week off for finals and returns to action December 16 in a 4 p.m. home tip-off against Tabor College.
