Henry Named Sun Conference Assistant Coach of the Year

William Henry, SEU's defensive coordinator, has been named the 2024 Sun Conference Football Assistant Coach of the Year.

Under Henry's leadership, the Fire defense has transformed into one of the toughest units in the NAIA. This year, Southeastern topped the Sun Conference in total defense and was third in the NAIA in points allowed per game, holding teams to just 9.6 points per contest.

Additionally, Henry and the Fire placed first in the conference in yards allowed per game, a number that ranks 13th in the NAIA.

"I am thrilled that Coach Henry is being recognized as the Sun Conference Assistant Coach of the Year," said head coach Adam Waugh. "His defensive results speak for themselves with numerous high rankings both nationally and within the conference. His organization and attention to detail are second to none, and he has a unique ability to get the best out of our players every week."

The Fire finished the season 7-2, notching three shutouts, and finished ranked 16th in the NAIA, their highest ranking since 2019.

Henry is in his fourth year on staff and just finished his second season as defensive coordinator.

William and I have worked together at SEU for four years," continued Waugh, "and it has truly been a pleasure to work alongside him as he has built a top-ranked defense."
