Fire Breeze Past Lions

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire Homecoming fans were treated to a quick Saturday afternoon match. Southeastern University kept its winning ways rolling as it breezed past Florida Memorial, 3-0, in The Sun Conference women's volleyball play.

SEU went on a mid-opening set 9-1 spurt and coasted to a 25-9 win capped by an Angelina Vaccaro kill. Florida Memorial gave a fight in set number two as it built a 15-9 advantage. SEU turned the tables with the next four points and 11-of-12, before it finished the set on a 12-2 run for a 25-18 final when Chapel Cunningham and Sylvia Liszewki teamed for a tandem block. The Fire led the third set 10-5 and posted the next 12 points in a row on the way to ending the match in a 25-8 final.

In the match, SEU recorded 11 team blocks in the three sets and 11 service aces.

The Fire recorded its 16th win in 20 matches and moved to 9-2 in The Sun.

Alexandra Postlethwaite guided the Fire offense with 23 assists, five service aces and three digs. Haven Speer chipped in eight assists and a dig. Marysa Connors swept up the back row with 16 digs and lined three aces.

Cambry Pope downed nine kills, dug 13 attacks and had three blocks. Liszewski hit eight kills with one error in 13 attacks at a .538 clip with seven blocks and three digs. Camdyn Gebhards added four kills and six blocks, while Cunningham was in on five blocks and had three kills. Vaccaro and Kennedy Jones both finished with three kills and Yarelis Lopez had seven digs.

SEU travels to face New College of Florida on Tuesday evening, Nov. 5, in a 7 p.m first serve.
