Fire Beat Night Hawks at Homecoming

LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern University rode strong finishes to both the first and second quarters and coasted home, beating a gritty Thomas University team, 76-52 in the Homecoming game at The Furnace.

Leading by two points midway through the first quarter, SEU ran off 12 of the final 14 points and took a 23-11 advantage. The Fire finished the second quarter the same way they did the opening one on a 10-1 run for a 20-point intermission advantage, 38-18. SEU never took its foot off the gas and kept Thomas from putting together any challenge in the final 20 minutes of play.

With the win, SEU starts the 2024-25 campaign at 3-0, its first three wins to start a season since 2021-22. Thomas fell to 1-2.

With a 9-of-13 night from the field, SEU's Jodi Mullins paced all scorers with 23 points and handed out a pair of assists. Alley Haas came off the bench with a pair of treys as part of her 12-point, four-rebound effort.

Leading the inside game, Grace Field pulled down a team-high 10 boards, while she made 3-of-5 field goals for eight points and two steals. Mya Herman chipped in seven points, four steals and three assists. Anaya Coleman added six points and three rebounds, while Kassidy Jones drained a pair of triples for six points.

Tierney Bolton garnered high honors for Thomas with 17 points.

SEU has the weekend off before it hosts the University of Fort Lauderdale on Monday evening at 7 p.m..
