Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – In a battle of unbeaten teams in Sun Conference play, St. Thomas beat the Fire 3-0 this afternoon to retain the top spot in the conference and remain undefeated on the season.
SEU held a 7-6 lead in the opening set and then another edge late, 20-19, before the Bobcats rallied and won the set, 25-23. In the second set, the Fire battled but STU pulled away for a 25-18 second set final. SEU trailed by a single point in the third set, 8-7, and was behind by only 15-12 but the Fire went cold as the Bobcats pulled away for a 25-14 third set victory to secure the sweep.
The SEU loss snapped its 10-match win streak, but the Fire still hold a strong 12-3 overall mark and are 6-1 in Sun Conference play. No. 10 St. Thomas stayed undefeated at 20-0 and 7-0 in The Sun.
Cambry Pope led the SEU frontline with six kills, six digs and two total blocks. Kennedy Jones added five kills and a block, while Yarelis Lopez had eight digs, with she and Camdyn Gebhards contributing four kills apiece.
Alexandra Postlethwaite handed out 12 assists and had five digs, while Haven Speer accounted for seven assists, six digs, two kills, and an ace. Jenna Rogers had nine digs on Bobcat attacks.
SEU has a week off before it returns home next Saturday afternoon in a 2 p.m. rematch against Florida Memorial.
