Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – William Durrance scored with 18 minutes left, breaking a 1-1 tie and leading the Fire past Florida Memorial University, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon.
Less than 30 seconds after teammate Kory Nekoloff put a Fire shot on goal, Durrance took a pass off the foot of Nico Munari and connected for the go-ahead score at 72:16. The Lions tried to finish strong, but Fire goalie Esteban Navarrete was better, stopping three shots on goal in the final 55 seconds of the match to seal win.
With the win, SEU claimed its eighth win of the year and improved to 8-3-2 overall. The Fire won their second match in as many games and have now allowed only one goal in the last three matches. Florida Memorial dropped to 6-6-3 and suffered their first home loss to SEU since dropping a 5-3 decision on October 21, 2017.
SEU out-shot the home team by a 21-12 margin and put 18 of those shot attempts on the FMU net.
Enrico Lazzari and Durrance provided the Fire goals, while Jman Dieng and Munari assisted. Navarrete recorded five saves in goal.
SEU returns to action in a Saturday night for a Homecoming match-up with Webber International. The game will kick off at 8 p.m., with a senior night ceremony before the game.
