Fire Fall On Late Goal In Miami Gardens

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Southeastern University men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 Sun Conference match against St. Thomas University on Wednesday evening at AutoNation Field. With the result, Southeastern falls to 9-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play, while St. Thomas moves to 9-3-3 overall and remains unbeaten in conference action at 5-0-3.

Both teams battled through a scoreless opening 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Noah Murray-Hawkins kept the Fire in the match early, making six of his seven total saves in the first half as St. Thomas outshot Southeastern 13-7 in the opening period.

The Bobcats broke the deadlock early in the second half when Julien Laborde found the back of the net off an assist from Manuel Dominguez in the 53rd minute (52:25) to give St. Thomas a 1-0 advantage. Southeastern responded with defensive grit and set-piece pressure midway through the second half. In the 69th minute (68:36), following back-to-back corner kicks, Adam Cooil leveled the score at 1-1 by slotting home his first goal of the season, assisted by Miguel Londono.

However, St. Thomas capitalized on a corner kick opportunity in the 77th minute (76:34), as Ellef Herstad scored the game-winner off a delivery from Okan Erkocu to put the Bobcats ahead 2-1. Southeastern generated late attack pressure but was unable to find an equalizer before the final horn.
