Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – After falling behind 2-1, the Fire stormed back and beat Florida College 3-2 in a five-set thriller tonight at The Furnace.
After splitting the opening two sets (18-25 and 25-22), SEU rallied back after the team was down by as many as six points for a 25-25 deadlock before Florida College took the match lead with the final two points (27-25). The Fire pushed ahead in the fourth set and led by as many as six, 22-16, winning the set, 25-18. SEU took a two-point edge and tripled it to six (11-5) and never trailed by less than three the rest of the fifth set and closed out the win, 15-10, on a Cambry Pope and Emma Reed combo block.
SEU improved to 14-3 on the season and 8-1 in The Sun Conference. The Fire captured its second five-set victory after it had a similar 3-2 result against the Falcons (12-8) back on Sept. 17.
Pope led SEU with 27 kills to go with 13 digs, a pair of blocks and an ace. Kennedy Jones added her own double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs.
Chapel Cunningham downed eight kills without an error in 18 swings for a .444 percentage and six total blocks. Of her eight kills, Cunningham had three of those in the fifth set with the first starting a four-point spurt to help open a six-point lead.
Sylvia Liszewski contributed seven kills and three blocks, while Reed had three kills and three blocks.
Alexandra Postlethwaite recorded a season-high 50 assists running the offense with 17 digs, two blocks and two aces. Haven Speer chipped in 11 digs and five assists, while Marysa Connors dug 29 Florida College attacks.
SEU looks to extend their win streak to three when they return to Sun Conference play on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Keiser University.
