Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – Madelyn Davidson scored two goals and the Southeastern University defense helped the Fire to a 2-1 victory over visiting St. Thomas University in women's soccer action tonight.
After an opening Bobcat shot on goal was stopped less than four minutes into the action, Davidson took a Rebecca Laface pass and bounced a shot off the goalie and into the open net at 4:51 for an SEU lead they didn't give up.
The Fire defense and goalie Ella Sebree fended off three additional first half shots on goal to hold the 1-0 advantage going into halftime. On the third shot of the second half, Davidson drove home a beautiful volley touch off of an Ariadna Lozano cross for a 2-0 margin (52:52). St. Thomas cut the margin in half at 72:12, but it did not get another shot off in the final 18 minutes.
SEU improves to 4-5-1 on the year and an even 3-3 in The Sun Conference after their third win in a row. St. Thomas (4-2-4/2-2-1) lost it's third straight to SEU and is winless in the series in the last 14 meetings between the two teams.
Sebree turned away five of the six shots she faced on goal in 90 minutes in net, including a spectacular save late in the first half to preserve the lead. Davidson fired off five shots, four on goals, with two finding the back of the net. She has now scored the last four goals for the Fire. Along with her assist, Laface added a shot on goal and Makayla Peddycoart had the final Fire shot on goal.
SEU has a week off before returning to action next Wednesday, October 23, in a 12 p.m. match against No. 2 Keiser University in West Palm Beach.
