The Fire men's basketball team picked up their first conference win of the season last Saturday versus the Webber International Warriors, and dropped a nail biter in overtime to the Keiser Seahawks on Wednesday.
Coming into the week, Southeastern sits at a 9-7 overall record, with one win and two losses in conference play. As a team, the Fire are shooting around 46% from the field, and outscoring their opponents in FG%, 3 point %, and blocks per game. Some key players for the Fire so far this season are Makai Vassel, averaging almost 16 points per game, shooting 55% from the field, along with
Joshua Blazquez, who averages about 13 points per game.
Conference play continues this week, as the team will travel to Miami Gardens, Fla. on Wednesday and take on receiving votes St. Thomas University. The Bobcats are coming into this game with a 10-5 (1-2 SUN) record, their one conference win coming from their road victory against the Warner Royals. Milton Matthews will be the one the Bobcats look to for their second conference win, as he leads the team with over 20 points per game. Southeastern will hope to keep their streak alive versus the Bobcats, as they have taken the last two games from St. Thomas.
On Saturday, the men's basketball team will return home and host the Coastal Georgia Mariners. The Mariners will also be looking for their second conference win this week, coming into the week with an 8-5 (1-2 SUN) record. Coastal Georgia is shooting a near 50% from the field, with Nick Jiles leading the way for the Mariners with 18.5 PPG. The Fire have won their last four games versus the Mariners, out scoring them in those games 337-268.
